The defence hearing in the case involving Christopher Okello Onyum—who is accused of murdering four children at the Ggaba Day Care Centre—has officially been closed.
The development followed submissions from the defence lawyers led by Richard Kumbuga, who told the court that attempts to trace the two remaining witnesses were unsuccessful.
Kumbuga informed the court that the information provided by the court process server indicated the witnesses could not be located. He added that after consulting with their client, the defence team decided to close its case.
Onyum is facing four counts of murder relating to an incident allegedly involving an Early Childhood Development Centre in Ggaba on April 2, 2026.
Last week, Onyum told the court that he did not act with an intent to kill and urged the court not to convict him. He argued that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Presiding judge, Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, directed the defence to proceed with final submissions. However, defence counsel requested a three-hour adjournment to prepare.
The matter has since been stood over until 2:15 PM today for further proceedings.
