President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared his new term of office “No more sleep for all Ugandans” and “No more corruption” as he listed thematic areas of focus for the next 5 years of his term of office.
President Museveni charged Ugandans with the responsibility to scaleup wealth creation and job creation at their different levels noting that the advet of the NRM ever since 1986 has vividly delivered on core National transformation aspects that include poverty alleviation for those that labored to listen and adhere to NRM message on wealth creation with proof of improved household levels, the booming real estate explosion around Kampala and upcountry among other factors.
President Yoweri Kaguta noted that his landslide victory in the 2026 general elections affirms the NRM scoreline in peace and security founded on the NRM ideology for politics of interest as proposed to identity, development in economic and social aspects, wealth creation of individuals, families and companies, job creation, a thriving law and order sector, Internal and regional markets and fostering Political Federation for East Africa in the four security domains.
President Museveni made the remarks today May 12th during his maiden speech after inauguration for the 2026/31 term of office at Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds which was held under theme, “Protecting the Gains: Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status,”.
President Museveni listed several successful examples on creation for the populace to emulate further including among other Johnson Basangwa a renowned poultry farmer in Kamuli district, Joseph Ijara a diary and poultry farmer in Serere district and Nyakana in fort Portal mong others examples.
The President rallied the people of Uganda to take advantage of the government financial schemes including the Parish Development Model Initiative Funds among others.
President Museveni set out plan to maximize Uganda’s arable land by 7 out of the 40 million acres of endowed arable land for commercial agriculture saying that over 105 million job opportunities can be harnessed from commercial agriculture if well implemented on expanse Uganda’s arable land to add to the other sectors like manufacturing that currently employs 1.5 million people, ICT and the Services sector.
President Museveni maintained the Government of Uganda stance on mineral processing and value addition to end the hemorrhage through export of raw materials.
He guided the people on sustainable wetland use and management as he promised to scaleup irrigation and fish farming for communities around near wetland areas has dismissed any excuses from anybody for their non participation into income generating active.
President Museveni stated that all forms of financial support to different sector actors have provided for in the National Development Plan Four – NDP4 and thereby expecting no more excuses as such and mentioned different cluster financing provisions established by government to empower and ensure financial inclusion for all people.
The President told the populace to legally deal with corrupt and those found of diverting funds meant to support communities through their respective leadership structures and asked political parties subscribed to the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) to lay out clear agreed guidelines on the dos and don’ts of election management in conformity to election laws.
The President’s request is premissed on cases of violence he cites in previous election perpetrated by some actors from opposition parties including National Unity Platform and Forum for Democratic Change whom he said were unnecessary and disruptive of the country’s democratic Electoral process.
The President congratulated Ugandans and the NRM fraternity at large for the 2026 peacefil election victory and called on their active participation into this new term of office he themed on “No more sleep”.
He applauded Uganda’s friendly Africa nations that contributed to Uganda’s liberation struggle including Mozambique and Tanzania as he rallied Africa on solidarity and unity.
Earlier President Museveni was inaugurated for the 7th term of office 2026/31 at a colourful event presided over by the Chief Justice of Uganda Dr Flavian Zeija as he took two oaths that include, the Oath of Allegiance pledging loyalty to the Republic of Uganda and to protect the Constitution and The Oath of President committing to the faithful execution of presidential duties, the promotion of welfare of Ugandans and upholding the law of the land
President Museveni was subsequently been handed instruments of power by the Chief Justice Dr Flavia Zeija that include The Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, The National Flag, The National Court of Arms and The public seal and signed the prerequisite respective protocols to administer the office of President.
The Chief of Defense Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba later handed over Instruments of National Defense before a 21 gun salute to the newly sworn-in President as the Vice President Maj Jessica Rose Alupo Epel read the protocols and invited the Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugyenyi to unveil and officially declare the President-Elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni before he handed him to the Chief Justice Dr Flavia Zeija to administer the oaths.
In his remarks, the Electoral commission Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi re-affirmed the 2026 Presidential election results which were won by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with 71.6% which is over and above the the constitutional threshold of 50%.
Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi has commended all candidates for participating in the recent Presidential and Parliamentary and Local Government elections among others, describing their action as distinguished and patriotic and applauded Ugandans for the unity and Peace post 2026 polls and urged them to maintain harmony for national development and democratic governance to thrive.
Prior to the swearing in, there was Military Parade mounted by gallant men and officers of UPDF, Uganda Police and Uganda Prisons Services, commanded by Brig Gen John Bosco Asinguza and deputized by Colonel Stuart Agaba coupled with display of arms of UPDF’s Paratrooper formation, Field Artillery Division, Motorized Infantry Division and Anti Aircraft.
UPDF Airforce Mi 17 helicopter carrying the National Flag, followed by Spiral formation 172 Aircrafts, Eagle Formation Caravan 208 and Tiger Sukhoi 30 fighter jet and the Brass band for the day commanded by Colonel Moses Ssentongo was part of the broad squad exhibiting at the parade square
The Parade ceremony was aminated by the Acting Defence Public Information Officer Colonel Chris Magezi who assisted the Master of Ceremony the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vicent Bagire while the Vice President Major Jessica Alupo was the Director of Ceremonies.
The event was attended by several Heads of State who included Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia, Brahim Ghali of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé of Togo, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana and His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi.
Other High-Level Dignitaries Kenya Vice President Prof Kithure, Dr Constantino Chiwenga the Vice President of Zimbabwe, Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Dr Justin Nsengiyumva the Prime Minister of Rwanda, Azouz Nasri the Vice President of the Council of the Nation of Algeria and former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, Secretary General of ruling parties from various countries and the Senior Bureau Official in the U.S Department of African Affairs Nick Checker among many others.
