Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 78 year old man identified as Godfrey Tumwesigye, a resident of Nyarwemarira village in Rubimbwa Parish in Kirima Sub-county.

The outgoing Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and said that it is alleged that, some time back, the deceased was married to four wives of which all of them stay in their respective homes.

Maate explained that after some time, the deceased developed some misunderstandings with them, and went and acquired another land where  he constructed a house and started staying alone.

It is on that same land when his daughter Kyomuhendo Florence constructed  a house where she stays with her children as she took care of her father who is now deceased but was in good health and was served food by his grandchild as he planned to go to bed.

Unfortunately, yesterday morning when the grandchild went there to help him take the goats for grazing, he found him dead lying outside  his house and ran back and informed his mother who responded to the scene and later the matter was reported at Kirima Police Station.

Maate explained that the Police from the District team responded with a

Police sniffer dog, which was introduced to the scene of crime but it was already tampered with and the body was retrieved and conveyed to  Kanungu Heath Center IV Mortuary for the postmortem examination.

Maate said that inquiries are going on, and efforts to have those involved in the brutal killing of the old man are being made to have them arrested and  be charged accordingly.
