A team from the National Council for Higher Education yesterday completed a tour of African University of Science and Management in Kanungu District which was aimed at monitoring governance and management and provide guidance on the proper aspects of establishing the University.

The team from the National Council for Higher Education was led by the Deputy Executive Director Dr Alex Kagume and included Dr David Musiimaani and Dr Justine Ayebare, and the team interfaced with key stakeholders who included promoters and members of the University Council  and management.

During the interactive meetings, the team from National Council for Higher Education reviewed the documents including the approved University constitution pertaining governance and management of the University and also inspected the facilities that have been put in place to support the management.

According to findings, the team found out that the African University of Science and Management which is a project of Diocese of Kinkizi was on the right track to ensure that the institution of Higher learning was established.

The team also informed the stakeholders that the University can only be fully operational when it has been gazetted which is in final stages.

They also made it categorically clear that existing schools and colleges were to remain operating in their previous form and could only be transitioned after the University has been gazetted and it was also made clear that the University main Campus  was progressing well .

The Interim University management was also reminded that their role was to implement Council resolutions but not to make independent decisions and the Diocese of Kinkizi is committed to continue working together with all benefactors and stakeholders to ensures that her values are not compromised.
