The Police in Kanungu District is holding a senior four student of Trinity College Butogota Secondary School in Butogota Town Council for allegedly setting fire on the Boys Dormitory.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Nelson Tumushime has confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as a 20 year old Elisa a S.4 student at Trinity college Butogota and a resident of Butogota Upper in Butogota Town Council in Kanungu District.
According to Trinity College Headteacher Wenslas Muhwezi, the suspect Elisha John was suspended from school by the administration on 3rd June after engaging in several forms of indiscipline which were against the school rules and regulations.
It is reported that the suspect came at the same school premises yesterday and picked someone’s uniform which was hanged on the wire line and put it on and joined the fellow students went to the library for evening preps classes in the library where he didn’t stay for long and disappeared as others were still for evening preps in the classrooms.
During a five minutes break, one student rushed to the dormitory to drink water at the water tank and as soon as he reached, he saw flames of fire from the male dormitory and on going there to check what could have happened, he saw the suspect running away half dressed without a shirt.
Tumushime said that the Police at Butogota Police Station was notified , rushed at the scene together with the local community and joined the staff and students and they were able to contain the fire, before it spread to other premises.
The Police has since disclosed that no injuries were reported at the scene, and the general public is called upon to remain calm as investigations continue, and the suspect will be charged accordingly.
