The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, together with Maama Florence Asiimwe, on Tuesday evening welcomed an eight-member team from Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA UK) with a continental dinner held at the Bishop’s Residence on Kinyasano Hill.
The visiting team comprises Rev. Ben, the team leader, Mark, Jessica, Noah, Mollie, Bethany, Joseph and Izzy, who are in North Kigezi Diocese for a ministry and fellowship visit.
The dinner was also attended by members of the Bishop’s Office staff, including the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Munturive NshabaRuhanga; the Diocesan Treasurer, Tumwebaze Olivias; the Diocesan Internal Auditor, Mr. Mukiza Michael; Ven. Andrew Kananura, Archdeacon Kakinga Archdeaconry and the Diocesan Coordinator for Household and Community Transformation, Mr. Mugabe Alex Nathan.
Speaking during the dinner, Bishop Asiimwe expressed gratitude to the visitors and paid tribute to the early missionaries who brought the Gospel to Africa. He said the Church in Africa owes the missionaries a great debt of gratitude for introducing Christianity to the continent, noting that without their sacrificial ministry, many people would have remained in spiritual darkness despite Africa’s abundant sunshine.

On behalf of the visiting team, Rev. Ben thanked the Diocese, and Bishop Asiimwe in particular, for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to them. He observed that while the early missionaries faithfully brought the Gospel to Uganda and Africa, many people in their homeland had since drifted away from the Christian faith.
He therefore appealed to the Church in Africa to respond to the call of sharing the Gospel with Europe, saying that the time had come for African Christians to help rekindle the faith where it had first been preached.
During their stay in North Kigezi Diocese, the SOMA UK team will participate in evangelistic outreaches and visit several diocesan institutions.
On their first and second days, they visited Kinyasano Girls High School, Canon Beatrice Ruhindi Vocational Training Institute, Chilli Children Project at the Diocesan offices, and Kitazigurukwa Primary School. They also toured the Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano construction site. The team will continue with ministry engagements at Kisiizi Hospital, Kisiizi Hospital Primary School, Makobore High School, and other institutions within the Diocese.
The visit forms part of the partnership in ministry and friendship between North Kigezi Diocese and Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA UK), aimed at strengthening Christian fellowship.
