President Museveni Expresses readiness to support DRC in fighting against Ebola

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed Uganda’s readiness to support the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo through treatment, technical expertise, and close regional cooperation of Ebola disease.

President Museveni made the remarks while meeting the Democratic Republic of Congo Minister for Public Health Dr Kamba Mulanda Samuel Roger, who delivered a special message from President Félix Tshisekedi regarding the Ebola outbreak.

During the meeting which took place at State House Entebbe, President Museveni reflected on Uganda’s successful containment of its recent Ebola cases through early detection, effective treatment and strict public health measures.

The President also proposed the establishment of Ebola treatment centres in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, in order to halt its spread.

He also said the Ebola centres would ensure timely treatment closer to affected communities and help contain the disease at its source.

Minister Kamba Mulanda thanked President Museveni and the government of Uganda for the assistance extended to his country especially in the fight against the spread of Ebola saying that the effort has saved many lives.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi and technical team headed by the Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine and security team from the Uganda Police and the UPDF.
