Counsel Isaac Atukunda handing over the dustbins to Rukungiri Municipality Leaders

Rukungiri Municipality has got a relief after  Counsel Isaac Atukunda has donated modern street dustbins to Rukungiri Municipality depicting that true leadership isn’t just about holding office, but it’s about making a difference. 

Counsel Atukunda who is the aspiring Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality (2026–2031) has demonstrated a rare brand of people-centered leadership by delivering on a critical civic need concerning sanitation and cleanliness.

Earlier this month, Counsel Isaac Atukunda led a massive street cleaning campaign in and during the exercise, the team discovered a major missing gap which was lack of dustbins.

Counsel Atukunda yesterday May 25th 2025  swiftly returned to Rukungiri Municipality with a solution and he personally handed over the modern dustbins to the Rukungiri Municipal Council Authorities. 

The official handover was graced by key Municipal leaders who included the Deputy Town Clerk Ampaire Justus and and the Deputy Mayor, who jointly received the bins and applauded Counsel Atukunda for his proactive approach and unmatched commitment to development even before holding any political office

While speaking at the same event, Rukungiri Municipality Speaker Tumusime Constance paid glowing tribute and appreciation, thanking Council Atukunda for fulfilling his pledge and described his unmatched love for the development of the Municipality and urged fellow leaders to join hands in ensuring these dustbins are put to proper use.

Counsel Atukunda’s Political Assistant, Fred Muchunguzi who is the District Councillor for Eastern Division, praised the impactful initiatives undertaken by Counsel Atukunda from constructing boreholes, forming community SACCOs, supporting hospitals and schools, to sponsoring over 40 students and described him as a man of action and not just ambition.

The District Councillor Southern Division and Chairperson for Works, Production and Resources, Johnson Kapesha described Counsel Atukunda as developmental minded person and named him “Mr Development,” and highlighting how he has outperformed many sitting leaders in just a short time without holding office.

Rukungiri Municipal Health Inspector Ms Evas Asiimwe reaffirmed the dire need for such infrastructure, noting that the health department will work hand-in-hand with Counsel Atukunda’s team to strategically place the dustbins across the Municipality and also sensitise the public, especially street vendors on their proper use.

A Boda boda rider, Niwabiine Brighton thanked Counsel Atukunda for donating a dustbin to their stage, vowing to rally fellow riders to support him come election time.

In his remarks, Counsel I Atukunda emphasized that the dustbins were not only donated, but will personally finance their installation and reiterated his slogan “Health is Wealth”* saying that a clean and healthy Rukungiri Municipality is the foundation for prosperity.

“I envision Rukungiri Municipality as the cleanest, most organized model town in all Uganda,” he said. “I have walked this journey with the administration and the people—I am ready to do more, together.”
