Kanungu District Local Council has convened an extra ordinary meeting scheduled for today aimed at discussing the fragile situation of gold mining in Kayungwe Sub-county which was in July closed by the government.
According to the Kanungu District Clerk to Council Sam Birungi, the council will take place today starting at 9 am at the District Council.
According to Birungi, the Extra Ordinary Council will be attended by the Minister of Minerals and that one of Security, Minister of Health, all Area Members of Parliament, the RDCs and District Councillors.
According to the Agenda which this reporter has seen, the Extra Ordinary Council is expected to discuss the harassment and torture of people living around the area where gold was discovered in Kayungwe.
