President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today held talks with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, focusing on bilateral relations, security in Somalia and the expansion of coffee trade between the two countries.

In a statement following the meeting, President Museveni said discussions centred on matters concerning Uganda and Somalia, particularly the security situation in Somalia.

The meeting underscores the two countries’ continued engagement on regional security matters, as Somalia works to address persistent security challenges.

President Museveni also announced that Somalia will soon receive Uganda’s value-added coffee, describing the development as a step in the right direction.

The planned coffee supply is expected to provide an opportunity to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries and expand markets for Uganda’s coffee products.

“I thank His Excellency Mohamud for this support,” Museveni said, welcoming Somalia’s move to support Uganda’s coffee exports.

Uganda has been pursuing value addition and export diversification as part of its broader efforts to increase earnings from agricultural products.

The discussions on security and trade highlight the importance of cooperation between Uganda and Somalia, both of which are members of the East African Community.

Uganda, which contributes troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), continues to play a key role in supporting peace and security in Somalia.
