NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances under which a 43 years old man identified aa Tushabomwe Javira was allegedly assaulted and died instantly.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and said that the deceased was a resident of Kishunju village in Nyakatunguru Ward in Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu District, who was allegedly assaulted by Tumuheirwe Fomia friend to the deceased also from the same address.
Maate explained that it is alleged that on the 15th Agust 2024 at during the night time, the victim was staying with the suspect as a woman friend, had a fight where the suspect critically injured him on the head.
The victim failed to report the matter to the Police nor to the Local Council leaders and decided to keep in doors, however, on the 18th August 2024, the chairman LC 1 of Kishunju cell learnt that the victim was badly off and on reaching him, he was in a critical condition and took him at police.
He mentioned the woman friend as the one responsible for his injuries but couldn’t explain further than that and was thus rushed to Kihihi health centre for treatment and yesterday morning, he was admitted at Kihihi Cealth Centre IV and he passed on after being referred to Kambuga Hospital.
Maate said that the Police were notified and statements were recorded from witnesses and a postmortem examination was done and the suspect was arrested as inquiries continue and the case of murder was registered at Kihihi Police Station under reference number CRB 330/2024 to help in investigations.
