NEWS- A vehicle belonging to the Kagadi district local government on Monday 26, February 2024 knocked dead a 25 year old boda boda rider who was taking part in the protests that were organized by the country director World Voices Uganda Gard Benda and a section of local leaders demanding the tarmacking of Muhorro-Ndaiga Road.

The road has reportedly spent three consecutive financial years without rehabilitation which has irked residents. The deceased has been identified as Tuhaise Magezi, a resident of Bugambeihe village in Bwikara Sub-County, Kagadi district.

Eye witness accounts show that the driver of the government double cabin identified as one Steven alias City together with the Kagadi district chairman Yosia Ndibwami were over speeding and knocked dead the victim from behind along Kagadi – Ndaiga Road as the protester was heading to Bwikara side.

It is alleged that Ndibwami had rushed to the scene to assess the situation after reported protests that had started earlier in the morning.

Akugizibwe Magezi, the brother of the deceased and other residents have condemned the fatal accident asking the government to rehabilitate the road to minimize similar tragedies.

These however faulted the driver for reckless driving which they say contributed to the accident.

Meanwhile the country director World Voices Uganda Gard Benda also condemned the accident arguing that the driver who caused the death be held accountable. Benda added that locals were exercising their constitutional rights to have their road worked on reiterating its economic and security value to the country.

The Resident District Commissioner Kagadi Lillian Ruteraho also confirmed that the vehicle of the Kagadi district chairman Yosia Ndibwami caused the accident, but faulted police for not stopping the demonstration earlier because it was illegally organized.
