President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is the National Resistance Movement party flagbearer has made it categorically clear that as the government builds infrastructure across the country, there is also need to build the manpower.
While addressing a mega rally at Rushebeya Playground in Rukiga District yesterday, President Museveni said that Uganda needs more science teachers not because arts teachers are less important, but because there is need to prioritise where the need is greatest.
President Museveni who was accompanied by top National Resistance Movement Leaders said that there is also need to focus on wealth creation that transforms lives, by engaging in commercial agriculture, establishing industries, services and ICT.
The President said that the principle remains to prioritise what builds the future and asked the leaders at all levels to ensure that their planning is based on priotisation of the community needs tgat feed into national planning.
He reminded the people that as a matter of fact tgat when the NRM came into power in 1986, it priotised the needs of the nation and reminded the people that at that time, electricity stopped in Kasese and Kabale had a small dam, whereas the entire Kigezi Sub-region had no electricity.
“We extended power to Ntungamo, Kabale, Kisoro and now Rwamucucu. We promised to electrify all districts, and the next step is taking power to every Gombolola. On water, the Kashumuruzo and Kabumbiro Nyakarambi schemes now give Rukiga 83 percent safe water coverage and we shall close the remaining gap,” President Museveni said.
President Museveni who also adressed a huge rally at Kigezi High School Lower Primary School playground in Kabale Municipality, told the people that development will not just enter people’s home automatically, but have to work hard to realise it
“You can have roads and electricity everywhere, but if you do not create your own wealth, poverty will stay at your doorstep. This is the gospel we started in the 1960s with the Rugundas here in Kabale. Even in the 1950s when I came to Butobere to play cricket, Kabale already had some tarmac, but poverty was still present,” He explained.
President Museveni said that the only solution to change community lives and create wealth is to prioritise the fight against poverty at the household level.
“That is why we send funds like Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to help families begin the journey of wealth creation. Wealth creates jobs and attracts industries which create even more jobs. This is the NRM vision and it is why we seek your renewed mandate, together with the other six points I will share at the press briefing tomorrow,” President Museveni added.
