KAMPALA- Three Civil Society Activists who were arrested in connection to Anti-Corruption protests that were held in Kampala last month; have asked the City Hall Court to dismiss the charge of taking part in unlawful assembly that was slapped against them.
Denis Pato, Abigail Kalenda and Ruth Nalunkuma in company of their Lawyer Paul Wasswa say that happened to them on the fateful day of July, 24th, 2024 at Hotel Elyana in Ntinda was an infringement on their freedom of expression because they were arrested for simply holding a press conference intended to calm down the protestors.
The trio who are affiliated with the youth-focused organisation- Vijana Corps made the statements as they had reported back to Court on Thursday, August 29th 2024 for mention of their case.
However City Hall Court grade one magistrate Edgar Karakire has informed them and their Lawyer that he was only adjourning the case on behalf of the trial Magistrate Rehema Nassoszi who is currently away on leave.
He then asked them to report back on 30th September, 2024 for mention of the case and make their application before her.
