KAMPALA- Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu has lashed out at Members of Parliament who reportedly received Ugx 100 million as a token of appreciation from President Yoweri Kaguta President Museveni for passing the Coffee Bill.
Archbishop Kaziimba made the remarks today morning while delivering his Easter message and said this smacks of corruption in a country where the quality of social services is in a poor state.
He said that he was greatly concerned about the huge amounts of money given to Members of Parliament while many of the roads across the country are in a bad condition, hospitals lack medicines and some Ugandans are left homeless due to land grabbing.
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu becomes the first religious leader to criticise the bounty that has been a subject of debate for the past week after President Museveni confirmed that the Ugx 100 million had been sourced from the classified expenditure.
The Archbishop also discouraged Christians from engaging in politics of violence, which has left many homeless and called for dialogue among the conflicting parties.
Kaziimba said Ugandans should be keen in conserving the environment and most avoid involving themselves in activities that destroy nature.
