NEWS– The Basongora students studying in higher institutions of learning in Fortportal City have come together to promote their culture and also plan together for development.
The students together with other Basongora living in Fortportal City met and held a meeting over the weekend at New Fort View in Fortportal City where they unanimously agreed to start activities aimed at promoting their culture.
The students are mostly those studying at Mountain of the Moon University, Uganda Pentecostal University and Uganda Martyrs University Fortportal Branch and other Institutions of Higher Education and those working within in different fields.
The Association Executive Committee led by Okaali Dan, Mugasa Jackson, Sedrack Isagara, Oyo Haguy, Scovia Kabasinguzi, Sharon Rubibi discussed key points which among other things agreed to offer career guidance to learners in Primary and Secondary schools in Busongora County so as to encourage them to remain in schools and complete their educational cycle.
They also agreed to form a Cultural Performers Club which will be used as a forum to advance the Busongora cultural norms and called on all people in the Toro Kingdom and Uganda at large to involve them for cultural and traditional performance on their functions.
They said that this will enable them to raise funds to support the needy and vulnerable Basongora in education, engage in policy formulation in order for them to compete favourably in the changing world.
They have since agreed to have their first education career guidance outreach on 26th February 2024 where Ms Judith Karwani and Smarts Mwango will lead them in the program and called upon all Government, NGO’s and other well wisher’s to support their effort to transform their community.
