NEWS– The Bishop South Ankole Diocese Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe has urged young people to strive hard and fight poverty stressing that poverty is not natural but rather man made.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe said this on Friday, January 2nd 2024 during the commissioning of Porunn Training Centre in Kyanju I cell, Central Division in Ntungamo Municipality.
Porunn Training Centre is subsidiary of Porunn Initiative Uganda which started in 2021 by young journalist Arisiima Annah with the help of her friend Dr. Torunn Stangeland from Norway.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe noted that many families and people are poor attributing the trend to failure to have ideas and plans in their heads.
He said that success must begin with an idea, calling upon all young people to be determined if they are to enlarge their territory to prosperity.
Bishop Ahimbisibwe flanked by his wife Ma’am Lillian Ahimbisibwe thanked the managing director of Porunn Training Center Arisiima Annah for being visionary and creative to other people in the region.
Dr Torunn Stangeland from Norway expressed happiness to the director for realizing her dream of starting up a skilling centre aimed at training, equipping hand craft skills and removing barriers to entrepreneurship development.
Dr Torunn accompanied by her husband Eng Pery Hopso revealed that during COVID-19 times, it was hard for young people to stay at home and Arisiima Annah was one of students that were being sponsored at MAMITA institute Kibingo who decided to enroll for shoe making and leather works in order to have skills and she supported her until to date.
She pledged her commitment to keep supporting her with a half dollar from every packet of Moringa sold in Norway.
The Ntungamo district vice chairman Asumani Kigongo commended the managing director Porunn Training Center for cascading the government program of skilling Ugandans and putting up a legacy for future generations.
The mayor Ntungamo municipality Jacob Kafureeka aka Jack Jex thanked Arisiima Annah and condemned civil servants who normally sabotage young people from engagement in developing in urban centers to desist from the vice.
The managing director of Porunn Training Center Ntungamo Arisiima Annah stressed the need for young people to be confident and focused in embracing hand craft skills instead of resorting to begging from politicians for a living.
MD Arisiima who is also Radio Ankole presenter said that the best way to start is to start and people will support those who are walking the walk.
The Training Center will train students in making African sandals of all kinds including open and closed shoes, make decorated interior flowers, bags, belts, door mats among others.
The commissioning started with medical camp organized by Mother and Child Mbarara at St. Luke’s Kabahambi COU in Ntungamo Municipality and it was a success according to organisers.
