KAMPALA- In a dramatic turn of events, Diocese of Kigezi Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna has amicably settled his differences with Kabale-based radio presenter Asiimwe Rodgers Obwengula, sources have revealed.

According to insiders who preferred anonymity, the issues were resolved during a tense meeting at the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) headquarters in Bugolobi, Kampala, earlier on Tuesday.

Bishop Akanjuna had lodged a complaint against K-town Radio’s Rodgers Obwengula, accusing him of consistently abusing him on air. The complaint prompted UCC to summon the entire K-town Radio management, along with Obwengula and Bishop Akanjuna, for a meeting to resolve the matter.

The heated meeting, attended by UCC’s legal team, K-town Radio’s manager, station editor, producer, and Obwengula, was attended by Ven. Oscar Mwesigwa, the Archdeacon of Bubare C.O.U in Rubanda District, on behalf of Bishop Akanjuna.

During the meeting, Obwengula’s radio program recordings were played for analysis, and he was tasked with defending himself and revealing his sources of information, particularly those that aggrieved the Bishop and other church leaders, including Ven. Oscar.

While Obwengula defended his on-air utterances, he declined to disclose his sources.

After a lengthy discussion featuring accusations and subsequent submissions in defense, K-town Radio’s management agreed to formally apologize to the Bishop.

According to Ven. Oscar, the Bishop’s representative, they only sought a formal apology from K-town Radio’s management and a commitment to rein on the presenter’s provocative conduct towards the Church.

The station manager revealed that Obwengula was already facing suspension from on-air programming and would issue an apology upon his return to the microphone.

The station manager also assured that they would ensure Obwengula does not attack the person of the Bishop again.

When contacted, Ven. Oscar confirmed representing the Bishop but declined to discuss the matter further, citing the need to brief the Bishop first.

Obwengula also confirmed the narrative, stating, “I’m now going to serve my suspension as agreed, and come back to work later, but I and the Bishop have no issues anymore.” he said.
