NEWS– Kanungu District boss Eng. Sam Kajojo has acknowledged Chaperone International for its remarkable impact in enhancing surgical, dental, maternal, child, and general healthcare services in Uganda.

As the guest of honor at the closing ceremony of a three-week surgical and dental health camp at Kanungu HC IV on November 23, 2023, Eng. Sam commended Dr. Holger Listle and partners from Germany for their enduring efforts to transforming the facility.

The surgical camp brought together experts from Germany and Uganda, conducting hundreds of life-saving surgical procedures and dental services.

Eng. Kajojo, while presenting an award to founder Dr. Holger, expressed Kanungu District Local Government’s satisfaction with the public-private partnership acknowledging the initiative as a powerful testament to the collaborative spirit, generosity, and true compassion that unites nations. 

The district boss congratulated Dr. Holger for persevering through challenges to provide excellent quality and compassionate care that now attracts people from across the district and beyond.

The closing event of the surgical and dental health camp coincided with the official opening of Kanungu HC IV laboratory and HIV Clinic, donated by Chaperone International. This included the addition of five rooms to host a dispensary, clerking section, resource center, store, and washrooms for staff.

Dr. Holger mentioned plans for further improvements, including a solar power boost for the laboratory and additional equipment for various medical tests.

Karungi Honest Assistant, DHO in charge of maternal healthcare in Kanungu District, thanked Chaperone International for improving maternal and child health outcomes by donating an operation theatre and providing personnel support. 

Dr. Tumwesigye Timothy, in charge of Katate Health Center IV, highlighted the remarkable transformation of Kanungu HC IV under Dr. Holger’s guidance, with investments in renovations, construction, operationalization of a theater, private rooms, extension of the ART clinic, a standby generator, a Doppler ultrasound machine, and a dental chair.

Chaperone International employs 22 staff at the facility, significantly bridging the staffing gap.

Mrs. Atwine Justine Kakuru, the Chairperson of the facility management, expressed gratitude for Chaperone’s contribution, making it the most visited health facility in Kanungu District. Dr. Wegener, a leading dentist in the surgical camp, expressed pride in contributing to a brighter future for Kanungu and Uganda.

The function was attended by various dignitaries, including the hospital project administrator, Mr. Martin Kafanta Atukwase, visiting surgical and dental teams from Germany and Romania, religious organization leaders, local leaders, and staff.
