The commissioner Hon Stephen Tashobya has urged Ugandans to join cooperatives saying that they are the engines for the economic growth, poverty alleviation and social transformation.
Speaking at the 23rd annual general meeting for Kajara People’s Sacco Ltd at Ntungamo Branch today, Hon Tashobya stressed that cooperatives play a pivotal role in improving the livelihoods of members through accessing resources and fostering financial inclusion among less privileged communities.

He also asked Sacco leaders to exhibit transparency, accountability and good governance to avoid collapsing before celebrating its first birthday due to poor governance.
Hon Tashobya commended founders of Kajara People’s Sacco Ltd for being visionary and warned members against loan defaulters.
The Kajara People’s Sacco Ltd board chairman Maj Gen (RTD) Jim Wills Byarugaba hailed the government for continuing to support Sacco’s which has fought tirelessly for its independence.
He noted that the Sacco has remained united thus attacking more membership during the period of five years down from collapse due to poor governance and mismanagement of stakeholders.
Gen Byarugaba said that due to improved mobilisation and service delivery, Kajara People’s Sacco Ltd has managed to receive 741 new members with current figures of 7356 members.
The general manager Akamukwatsa Yusufu revealed that the Sacco has grown in the last 24 years of existence attributing to growth in savings and share capital.
He thanked board, staff and members for the resilience and hard work which has enabled Kajara People’s Sacco Ltd to thrive amidst all challenges.

Kajara People’s Sacco Ltd which started in 2002has five branches of Ntungamo municipality, Kafunjo – Mirama,Omukiyenje- Bwanga, Rwamabondo and Rwashamaire the main branch.
Others speakers were Nyakatukura Geoffrey District Commercial Officer, Kwesigamukama Ezra the chairperson supervisory committee, Amutusimire patience branch manager and Twinomujuni Dan.
