KAMPALA– More than 60 suspected hard-core criminals who have been on the watch lists of Police’s intelligence in Kampala Metropolitan areas have been arrested.
The suspects were picked in separate intelligence operations conducted in areas of Masajja, Busabala, Nyanama, Kabalagala and Kansanga respectively.
Among the suspects, is Isaac Kizito a gang leader, has been apprehended with his other 8 accomplices in Kisangani Masajja, with stolen items, including TVs, phones, Hoofers, mattresses, refrigerators among others.
Another group of 66 suspected criminals were in the night operation in Kasanga, with the help of area leaders, currently undergoing screening by Katwe Police.
Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson, has said the operation followed several complaints from the public about an increase in house-breaking crimes in these areas,adding that the operation will continue in other areas.
“We will continue with these operations in all parts of Kampala Metropolitan areas, to wipe-out these gang groups that are giving sleepless nights to our community. We want to assure our people that any gang group will be dismantled.” Rusoke.
The operations come on the backdrop of increased insecurity in Kampala where the city has increasingly become a hotbed for criminal gangs, with many dark spots around the city where these gangs operate.
