Tayebwa takes a picture with EAC Heads of Legislation during the opening of 2025 Games

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa was yesterday December 7th 2025, joined by the Speaker of the Kenya National Assembly Rt Hon Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly Rt Hon Joseph Ntakirutimana in the procession to launch this year’s East African Parliamentary Games in Kampala.

Deputy Speaker Tayebwa said the games are a commitment to the shared contribution of the region’s Members of Parliament, to the growth of the East African Community.

Rt Hon Tayebwa re-echoed President Yoweri Museveni’s message on East African integration, especially the removal of remaining non-tarrif barriers, strengthening transport infrastructure throughout the community and championing and support value-addition chains within the East African Community. 

He also re-echoed President Museveni’s comments on access to Indian Ocean, noting that integration can facilitate the building of strong security apparatus like a resilient naval force of East Africa Community states, that would ensure formidable security of the region.

While speaking at the same event, the former Secretary General of the East African Community Hon Amanya Mushega urged the leaders and legislators in respective countries to make policies now, that will benefit the future generations of the Community.

He urged Legislators present at the launch of the 15th East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, and members of the Community at large, to go beyond demarcated boundaries, and promote the unity proposed by the founding fathers of the East African Community.

The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Rt Hon Joseph Ntakirutimana appreciated Uganda for championing the spirit of the East African Community. 

He noted that Uganda’s acceptance to prepare for and host the East African Community Games 2025 in a short period of time which is commendable and appreciated and Uganda’s effort for championing the spirit of the East African Community.

The Vice President of the Burundi Senate Hon Clotilde Kampimbare, said that the East African Community Games 2025 aim at strengthening camaraderie among legislators of EAC states, as well as improving Inter-Parliamentary relations and regional cooperation through sports diplomacy.

“The tournament is crucial for harmonious growth of the East African Community region.” She said.

The Vice President of the Senate of Rwanda, Hon Alvera MukaBaramba said that the East African Community Games 2025 are not about competition, but about sharing the aspirations of participating countries to make the EAC a vibrant community.
