The Police in Kabale District have today afternoon registered a fire outbreak at Solberg Secondary in Nyabikoni, Kabale Municipality.
The Police fire and rescue services swiftly responded and contained the fire from spreading to other buildings and are still assessing the damage and loss that was caused by the fire.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Nelson Tumushime confirmed the incident and cautioned the school Administrators to ensure that students dormitories have clear emergency exits and not overcrowded.
Tumushime also encouraged schools to conduct fire drills at least once every term and teach students on how to put off some of these fires.
He said that no injuries were reported but investigations are still on going to establish the exact cause of the fire.
Meanwhile the Marine Police in Rubanda District together with locals have this morning registered a case of death by drowning a man identified as Tumukunde John and rescued life of a 19 years old girl only identified as Rebbeca.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Nelson Tumushime confirmed the incident and identified said that Tumukunde was a teacher by profession and a resident of Butebe, Nyamilyango Parish in Rubanda District.
It’s alleged that the two woke up this morning and prepared to go to church for service using a small canoe / boat on lake Bunyonyi which later capsized ending life of Tumukunde John.
Tumushime asked the people who use the small canoes always have life jackets andavoid over loading of these small canoes/ boats and those in bad shape should be replaced by buying new ones.
