NEWS– Two former Members of Parliament from Rukungiri on Sunday morning survived an accident after the vehicle they were traveling in got involved in accident in Lwera along Kampala – Masaka Highway.
Former Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon Rolland Mugume Kaginda and former Rukungiri Woman Member of Parliament Hon Betty Muzanira were traveling in vehicle registration number UBM 874 when it lost control and overturned several times.
While speaking to this reporter, Hon Kaginda said that they have not sustained serious injuries because both of them were putting on seat belts at the time of the accident.
Hon Kaginda said that their driver lost control after he tried to avoid knocking a boda boda cyclist who tried to join from an adjacent junction whose life was also saved.
The two former legislators who were heading to Rukungiri District to attend a function received First Aid treatment and proceeded with their journey after being rescued by good samaritan.
Katonga Regional Police Spokesman Magidu Karim told journalists that the wreckage of the fateful vehicle was towed to Lukaya Police Station as investigations continue after Inspection by Inspector of Vehicles.
Karim however warned all road users to abide the Road Safety and Regulations rules to avoid causing unnecessary accidents which may cost their lives.
