Aharikundira leading the District Leadership at the Ground breaking and Site handover

Kyabenda Senior Secondary School in Kahungye Town Council will have 8 classrooms and 2 – 5 stance Lattrines constructed at the premises aimed at creating enough space for the ever increasing number of students.

The ground breaking and site handover was August 13th commissioned by Kamwenge Resident District Commissioner Africano Aharikundira, who was accompanied by the District Leadership led by the LC 5 Chairman Joseph Karungi Kaboona.

The 8 classroom and 2 five stance latrines are being being constructed under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Subproject (USEEP), at a cost of Ugx 846 million with funding from the World Bank and the Government of Uganda.

The contract to construct the building was awarded to Ms DENKA Building Company Ltd, a local construction company which emerged as the best evaluated bidder of the project.

While speaking at the ground breaking and site handover, RDC Aharikundira said that it was a government deliberate plan to ensure that Secondary Schools are expanded and more built in deserving areas due to increased population.

In Kamwenge District, Kyabenda SSS was selected by the Ministry of Education and Sports alongside other schools to benefit from the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Sub-project.

According to the Headteacher Kyabenda SSS, Karuhogo Yafesi Ntungwa, the school started in 1981 and presently has a total number of 1,130 students who comprise 582 Boys and 548 Girls.

Karuhogo thanked the government of Uganda for choosing Kyabenda SSS amongest the schools to be built across the country and made it categorically clear that he is upbeat that the new facilities to be put in place will give the school a face-lift, create more inducive learning space and attract a number of students.

While speaking at the same event, the representative of the Foundation Body, the Church of Uganda, Rev Canon Apollo Byomuhangi, an Old student, hailed the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports for rewarding the school which once served as the training centre for the National Resistance Army with the facilities and called for integrity and cohesion amongst the students and the contractor.

Kamwenge District Chairman Karungi Kaboona praised the team work amongst the district who include Ministet of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon Frank Tumwebaze, District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Sylvia Bahireira and Kibale County Member of Parliament Hon Curthbert Abigaba Mirembe who is the Parliamentary committee Chairperson on Education for working together to ensure equitable service delivery in the District.

The Chairman also hailed the District  Technical Staff, led by the Chief Administrative Officer Ms Anne Kesiime, the District Engineer, the District Education Officer, the District Environment Officer and the District Procurement Officer for their technical guidance that has seen timely projecta Implementation in the entire district.

The Chairman Board of Governors was represented by Rev Yorokamu Tumusabe who observed thst the choice of Kyabenda SSS under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Subproject is a clear indication President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the government of Uganda have confidence in the effort by the church to contribute to education development of the country. 

Rev Tumusabe also pledged support to the contractor saying that as Board of Governors, they undertook due diligence to select him due to his past good experience and hope thst he will once again execute excellent work at Kyabenda SSS.

Kahungye Town Council Mayor Turinawe Amos hailed the Government of Uganda for sharing the National cake with Kahungye Town Council residents and tasked the contractor to ensure that he buys building materials from the area and also employ unskilled labour from the Town Council to ensure equitable financial multiplier effect among the community.
