KATAKWI- The Ogwang Tournament 2024 is set to kick off on December 14th, 2024, in Ngariam County, Katakwi District. This exciting event has been made possible by the State Minister for Education and Sports (Sports) and Ngariam county legislator, Hon Peter Ogwang.
A total of 63 parishes have registered their teams, and the tournament promises to be an exciting platform for talent identification and community engagement.
A New Format for a Broader Reach
Unlike previous editions, this year’s tournament will start at the parish level, allowing more teams to participate and compete in home and away matches. This new format is designed to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for youth from all sub-counties to showcase their skills.
Ensuring Fair Play and Integrity
To ensure the integrity of the tournament, the organizing committee, led by Joseph Alucha, has implemented strict supervision measures to prevent the participation of players from outside Ngariam County. Additionally, FUFA experts will conduct training for referees to prevent cheating and ensure fair play.
Empowering Youth and Promoting Unity
Hon. Jorem Obukwi, chairperson of LC3’s of Katakwi District, has urged participating youth to desist from toxic drugs and promote unity during the games. The tournament promises to be an exciting event that will bring together youth from across the district, promoting social cohesion and community engagement.
Exciting Prizes and Support
The Minister’s office has provided sports jerseys, footballs, first aid kits, and other equipment to all 63 parishes. Exciting prizes will be awarded to winning teams, and the tournament promises to be a joyous celebration of youth talent and community spirit.
