NEWS- The Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, has urged Christians to support government programs such as PDM to eradicate poverty at the household level.
Bishop Akanjuna made these remarks on Thursday January 11th, during the opening of the 2024 Brethren Conference for the Diocese at the Convention Site at Rugarama Hill in the Northern Division, Kabale Municipality, under the theme “Mutashushanisibwa n’ab’obusingye obu,” derived from Romans 12:2.
The conference will end on Sunday, featuring various speakers, including Bishop Amos Magezi, the Bishop for North West Ankole, Rev. Can. Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye, Rev. Andrew Agaba, Rev. Can. Prof. Medard Rugyendo, among others.
Bishop Akanjuna commended Uganda’s government for its commendable programs like PDM and Emyooga urging Christians to embrace them as effective means of eradicating poverty in their homes.
Additionally, the Bishop encouraged Christians to participate in government programs like PDM by organizing groups based on household income to boost their development.
Akanjuna addressed the congregation, highlighting that the root causes of poverty at homes include alcoholism, sexual immorality, and nagging, among other issues. He pointed out that many people have accounts in bars rather than in financial banks.
He also observed that the modern world presents numerous temptations that Christians should avoid if they are to claim God’s blessings.
