NEWS- A section of residents in Mbarara city have threatened to demonstrate against the government if the stalled construction works on the 2.38KMĀ  roads does not resume by February, 2024.

Construction works on the 2.38KM road project have stalled since 2021.

The stalled roads include; Major Victor Bwana (0.95 km), Galt Road (0.65 km), and Stanley Road (0.78 km).

The joint contract between Multiplex Limited and Ditaco International Trade was awarded in May 2021, under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project, to construct three roads in Mbarara City at a cost of Ugx 23 Billion. Construction work was expected to be completed in April 2022 but has since stalled till todate.

Bright Muhumuza a businessman in Mbarara city said they expect the contractor to resume construction works soon or they take it to the streets.

Checks by our reporter revealed that the constructor has since abandoned the site.

Jimmy Kasitgazi one of the residents lamented that the road has become very dangerous to the extent that one of the residents, Justin Abeera Nasasira,47 a resident of Katete central cell in Mbarara city now has to use clutches to walk after falling into uncovered manhole at Victor Bwana road in March 2022.
