On this issue, www.informer .co.ug contacted ASP Tumwebaze Richard Rubirizi Officer in Charge of Traffic who said all the five accidents happened in only 6 days between 24th December 2023 and 1st January 2024.
ASP Tumwebaze says out of 5 registered accidents, three (3) were fatal, one was serious including two passengers and two motorists, another one was minor.
He adds that road accidents are on rise in the district and blames reckless driving, alcoholism and over speeding as the leading causes in most parts of the country.
Officer Tumwebaze further criticized road users who fail to watch out perfectly when using and crossing the roads arguing that such people have also led to increased accidents on roads. He wants motorists/drivers to always check their motorcycles/vehicles to make sure they are in good condition before being put on the road for work.
The Officer thanked all security and sister organizations for ensuring peace in the festive season assuring this publication that they will continue collaborating to fight crimes and combat road accidents in 2024.
