The NRM Secretariat officials, staff of the office of the National Chairman and security officials have held an inaugural meeting of about 250 members of the steering committees to assess the progress and discuss strategies on how to pull off a successful one-week marathon of party activities that will take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

According to the National Resistance Movement Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong, the conference will attract over 25,000 leaders right from the sub-county level, up to the national level.

In a meeting coordinated by the NRM Secretary General, Hon Richard Todwong, several issues to ensure proper planning, cohesion, and coordination were discussed.

“Today, 12th of August. We have inaugurated the organizing committee for the delegates’ conference for the National Resistance Movement Party. The committees are set, they are starting their work immediately, and by the 20th of this month, we shall start to receive and accredit them,” Todwong said.

Hon Todwong clarified that the conference will be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and not Mandela National Stadium as it has always been, since the stadium is hosting CHAN games and the accreditation of leaders will take place at Nakawa ICT Center before they proceed to the conference and called upon delegates to be orderly during  arrivals and meetings.

“Only delegates who have been elected and qualify to be members of the conference will be allowed to come. We shall send lists to the districts. My expectations from the organizing committee are to do a much better job than before. They should be much more committed to their work and make sure that the conference is successful at all levels,” Todwong said.

The Director of Communication at the NRM Secretariat, Hon Emmanuel Dombo, and the organizing committee spokesperson said the oversight committee will be headed by the party, First Vice National Chairman Al Hajji Moses Kigongo and the operations are going to be headed by the Secretary General Hon Todwong and the members of the subcommittees.

The subcommittee meetings shall sit daily to ensure the conferences and the meetings are properly organized to the satisfaction of the delegates.

“We are doing all this on behalf of the national chairman, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and also president of the Republic of Uganda,” Hon Dombo said.

Other members of the NRM secretariat top management, including the Deputy Secretary General Hon Namayanja Rose Nsereko, National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa, Deputy National Treasurer, Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheire, the Director of Mobilization, Dr Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde and Director of Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham, and the NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner Driwaru Zaitun addressed the meeting.
