NEWS– The Bishop of For-portal Catholic Diocese in Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province has cautioned the residents of Kasese district against alcoholism, arguing that the act retards development in families.

Rt. Rev. Robert Muhirwa Akiiki sounded the caution today afternoon while addressing the congregation during the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker that was celebrated at Holy Trinity Kyalhumba Catholic Parish in the Diocese of Kasese.

The Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker was celebrated with all Bishops from the Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province. These included His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha of Mbarara Archdiocese, Rt. Rev. Callista Rubaramira of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo of Hoima Diocese, Rt. Rev. Robert Muhirwa Akiiki of Fort-portal Diocese and the host Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, the Rt. Rev. Francis Acquirinus Kibira.

Bishop Akiiki stressed that in the past days, he realized that the people of Kasese were consuming alcohol at a higher speed, hence causing suspicion that families might break as a result of drunkenness.

On his part, Bishop Kibira while preaching highlighted for the Christians to build their families on the foundation of prayer.

The Prelate also emphasized the need for the people to take up the responsibility of planning, beautifying and adding value to the world through utilizing the natural resources.

His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha, encouraged the people remain faithful and to also have hope that the challenges affecting their wellbeing would at one time come to an end.

The Bishops are on a four-day visit to Kasese that will also involve their Annual Episcopal Meeting .
