Museveni delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA)

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today banned complacency and parasitism behavior and reaffirmed declaration on “No more sleep, No more corruption and diversion” while giving The State of the Nation Address to Parliament at Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds.

President Museveni warned non performing leaders at all levels to adjust towards the progressive implementation of government socioeconomic transformative programs intended to uplift the citizens welfare through wealth creation.

He strongly warned leaders whose motivation is based on allowances and handouts to stop the practice and warned Parish Chiefs and local staff frustrating wealth creation interventions that no more tolerance to    non performance. 

The President highlighted Uganda’s import substitution strides with remarkable growth of Uganda’s diary sector with annual milk production increasing from approximately 200 million litres in 1986 to more than 5 billion litres today.

The President said that capital for wealth creation is not Uganda’s problem anymore, highlights viable sectors for finding and directed new Minister of Works and Transport to ensure there is no more deterioration of the national road infrastructure through periodic and routine maintenance of all national roads.

The President has mentioned several national achievements Uganda has scored including the GDP growth, reduction of maternal mortality, increased life expectancy, democracy, industrialisation among others and emphasized Uganda’s transformation journey through the 5 economic stages from minimum economic recovery, economic expansion, diversification, value addition to the current knowledge economy.

 President Museveni’s emphasised, ” No more politeness to non performing leaders” and cited proactive approach to engage the resdents in Gomba, Mbirizi, Kamuli, Jinja districts among other areas that have attracted immense success stories of wealth creation attained across households and confirmed contracting of a firm to advance the National micro solar irrigation scheme.

President Museveni called for strategic focus to end wasteful land use for cattle grazers and warned against the premitive land fragmentation as a form of inheritance and called for establishment of companies to collectively manage family wealth and land.

He awakened Ugandans to self-confidence to partake of wealth creation and avoid ignorance as the major existing bottlenecks and revealed that government has listed 38 Bills lined up for consideration by the 12th Parliament and some of the Bills concern building substance, light arms, Universities and other Tertiary Institutions among others.

While speaking at the same event, the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth told Members of Parliament that the President has Constitutional obligation to make the State of the Nation Address as highlighted key national achievements, pressing challenges and drawing of Parliament’s legislative agenda as it commences its bussiness.

Speaker Oboth-Oboth rallied Members of Parliament to ensure cohesion, hardwork and prioritize their electorate as they undertake their mandate with guidance from the President’s State of the Nation Address.

The Speaker of Parliament reaffirmed Parliament’s focus and alignment of its undertakings towards the tenfold economic growth target as he guided them on the significance of the State of the Nation Address.

He reminded the Members of Parliament to continue observing thevhealth precautions against Ebola threat which he said had disrupted some activities across the country including the Uganda Martyrs Celebrations at Namugongo in Kampala.

Speaker Oboth-Oboth promised to schedule a Parliament session to debate the President’s speech ahead and rallied legislators to internalize the President’s State of the Nation Address as they wait they wait for the Budget speech on the 11th of June 2026.
