Japanese and Ugandan officials at the commissioning

NEWS- The embassy of Japan has commissioned a newly constructed 5-classroom block at Aputon primary school in Katakwi district in the east part of Uganda.

The project titled ” The project for the construction of a classroom Block at Apuuton Primary school in Katakwi District” begun on 20th February 2024, with a grant of USD 69,336 from the Embassy of Japan, Equating to over 256 Million Ug. Shs.

Aputon being the government primary school and esterblished in 1939 with support missionary organizations, has been a cornerstone of education in the community for decades.

According to the report from the School administration, at the time of application to the GGP in 2023, the school had only 13 classrooms to accommodate its growing student population which led to serve overcrowding, with the number of pupils per classroom far exceeding the national standard of 53 students.

H.E SASAYAMA Takuya, the Japanese Ambassador to Uganda while officiating at the function said, the GGP started in 1992 in Uganda so far 291 projects while the Katakwi project is the 6th to be implemented.

 SASAYAMA applauded the school Administration for having a concrete documentation that led to its funding.

” I would like to conclude my remarks by reiterating the pledge of the government of Japan to continue supporting initiatives that seek to improve the welfare of people at the grassroots level in Uganda”, H.E Ambassador SASAYAMA told the public.

Angella Atim, the District Education officer for Katakwi thanked the Japanese government for the funding and urged the school to take best use of the structure.

Meanwhile the District LC5 for Katakwi Hon. Geoffrey Omolo said the 5 block structure will now help the school administration have a good number of children.

Omolo added that, the block is one of the best in the District which he thinks has put the district to the map. District leaders were among those in attendance.
