NEWS– The Police in Kabale district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 47 year old woman who committed suicide by hanging.
ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman identified the deceased as Gloria Uwimana, a mufumbira by tribe and house wife resident of Kamukira cell, Kirigime ward in Southern Division of Kabale Municipality.
According to Maate, the deceased woke up at around 6am and the husband one Arineitwe Emmanuel inquired where she was going. Uwimana told Arinaitwe that she had some course work to finish up and submit, and the husband believed it since she was a masters degree student of Uganda Martyrs University. The husband saw her move from their bedroom to the sitting room.
The Police PTO adds that at a later time, when he woke up at around 8:40am, he moved into the sitting room only to find the phone and eye glasses of the wife there.
Arinaitwe then inquired from their daughter Kirabo Faith the whereabout of their mother and she told him that the mother had gone to her shop.
Shortly, Arineitwe Emmanuel received a call from Augustine Muwanika, the headteacher Child Africa, one of the tenants, informing him that the wife had hanged herself to death from the business house.
The police were accordingly alerted, and the Homicide team visited, documented it, witnesses statements were recorded and the body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
According to Maate, the autopsy showed that it was death by hanging, which according to him was very unfortunate calling upon residents to always seek services of the relevant offices for counselling than resorting to termination of their individual lives which is uncalled for.
