The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of one pupil and injuries to four others injured at Rwerere SDA Nursery and Primary School in Rwerere Town Council.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as 12 year old Ashaba Princess while the injured are 8 year Abisnguza Emmanuel, 7 year Azahura Treasure, 10 year old Ainembabazi Mercy and 8 year old Mugarura Onesmus all pupils of Rwerere SDA Nursery and Primary School.
Maate explained that the incident took place yesterday during a violent strong wind storm that broke down one of the walls of the school building which fell onto the five pupils who were having their lunch from it’s verandah.
The unfortunate children were rescued and rushed to the nearby private clinic where by Ashaba Princess died while being taken to the hospital.
The Police started an inquiry file and the scene of crime was visited and documented and the body was retrieved and taken to Buyanja Health Center IV Mountain for postmortem examination while the injured victims were taken to Kambuga Hospital for Medication.
Maate noted that the fact that the building which fell had weak walls, should be an eye opener to serve as a warning to many other schools that have the same, to avoid endangering lives of the innocent school children.
