NEWS- The territorial police in Rukungiri are hunting for suspect(s) who are alleged to have assaulted to death a 34 year old Tumuramye Evat a resident of Nyakahanga cell Masya parish Nyakagyeme sub county Rukungiri district.

This according to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesman was on the 12th December 2024 at unknown time of the night at Nyakahanga A cell, Masya parish, Nyakagyeme sub county  Rukungiri district.

It’s alleged that on the fateful day, at around 2130 hours at Omukayaga trading centre, Nyabitete parish, Bugangari sub county in Rukungiri district, the deceased was in the bar of Mugume Christopher Karugaba (reporter) while drunk and helpless.

The said Mugume Christopher carried and placed him outside in the grass for fresh air and left the bar in the hands of his maid identified as Amanya Promise. 

That at around 2300hrs of the same day, Brian and Twesigye Dononzio who were customers in the same bar came out for a short call and found him still lying outside, then  Brian urinated on him while asking him why he was lying there. That Brian told him that if he got him outside again, he would assault him.

The deceased stood up while staggering and left towards the direction of his home.

The following day, at around 0800 hours, Biryomumaisho John, a casual worker to Muhangi Michael was going to his garden in Nyakahanga A cell and found the body of the deceased lying upwards in the banana plantation of Muhangi Micheal under the coffee tree.

The said Biryomumaisho John informed the wife of Muhangi Micheal who also informed Mugume Christopher Karugaba who reported the matter to the police.

Maate added that the scene was visited and documented, statements were recorded from witnesses. The body had multiple injuries and was taken to Rwakabengo HC III Mortuary for postmortem examination.

Inquiries ongoing and anyone with information that can lead us to establish the perpetrators should volunteer it so that they are brought to book.
