Kagadi man chops off ex-wife’s hands on Easter Monday

KAGADI- The Police in Kagadi district are looking for a man who chopped off his estranged wife’s two hands and left her for the dead before fleeing the scene of crime.

The victim has been identified as Rose Basemera, 22 years, a resident of Nsugasugi B, Kanyangoma parish in Kagadi Sub-county and is currently nursing serious injuries at Kagadi government general hospital.

According to the Albertine regional Police Spokesperson SP Allan Julius Hakiza, the suspect Eldad Byaruhanga attacked his former wife on Monday night from her aunt’s place in Nsugasugi village where she had visited to check on her children.

Hakiza asserts that the suspect found the victim asleep at around 3:00Pm on Easter Monday and cut off her two hands before fleeing the scene. He attributes the act to domestic violence, adding that police have started investigations that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Hakiza warned residents against taking laws into their hands, asking residents holding grudges to always report to authorities for reconciliation and peaceful resolution.

Meanwhile, Rose Basemera told the press from her sick bed at Kagadi hospital and narrated that  she separated with her husband in November last year over his intolerable characters, asserting that she was harmed on Easter Monday while at her aunt’s place. She said by the time of an attack on her life, she was sick taking a rest.

Joseline Nyamate, the aunt to the victim said the incident happened while she was at the mosque for prayers. The duo is now asking police to arrest the suspect for justice to prevail.
