While announcing the closure today, Gen Katumba Wamala revealed that the contractor will immediately start the demolition of the concrete deck to allow major works for its restoration.
The Minister who was accompanied by staff from the Ministry of Transport and Works and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) disclosed that the exercise to reconstruct Karuma Bridge which the main gateway to Northern Uganda and West Nile is expected to last 03 months.
He however announced alternative routes for motorists from Kampala heading to Gulu and West Nile and advisedย themto use Luwero โ Kafu โ Masindi โ Paraa through the Murchison Falls National Park andconnect to Pakwach to Gulu via Olwiyo and vice versa from motorists from Gulu and West Nile.
He also said tgat that motorists to Lira can use the Rwenkunye โ Apac route via Masindi Port Ferry while motorists to Lira can also use Iganga โ Nakalama โTirinyi โ Pallisa โ Kumi โ Soroti โ Lira and vice versa.
