NEWS– One person has perished while seven others sustained serious injuries in a road accident that happened last evening at Kyababinga along the Kasese – Mbarara Highway in Kasese Municipality.

Our reporter who rushed to the scene clarified that the incident occurred near a junction leading to Kyababinga trading centre, a few meters from Kyengereza oils petrol station.

Following the incident, the Rwenzori East Regional Traffic Officer and the Kasese Divisional Police Commander rushed to the scene of crime.

Mr. Abdul Kawoya, an eye witness told our reporter that three vehicles got involved in the accident.

According to him, a Sino Truck which was heading to Kasese town allegedly run out of fuel and parked near a junction heading to Kyababinga trading center.

Kawoya added that a Lorry Registration No. UAM 552 belonging to Nyakatonzi Growers’ Cooperative Union which was trying to avoid hitting the parked Sino-Truck and collided with a speeding Wish Reg. No. UBR 686 R which was coming from Kasese town.

According to him, the Wish had seven occupants while the lorry which was ferrying soya beans and maize had only the driver.

The injured persons were then rushed to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital – Kasese in Kasese town.

It is reported that a woman who was rushed to St. Paul’s Hospital- Kasese died on arrival and her body is at the hospital mortuary.

At Mt. St. Mary’s hospital, a health worker in the Emergency ward confirmed that they received seven patients including the driver of the Wish.

Nema Kabugho, a resident of Kidodo cell but originally hails from Kisolholho village in Karambi sub-county who was traveling in the Wish and is currently admitted at Mt. St. Mary’s hospital.

Kabugho narrated to our reporter that the vehicle was heading to Rubirizi district and was being driven by a one only identified as Vincent who would drop her to Kikorongo and then proceed with the journey. 

Mr. Aganatiya Bwambale Lhuhalha, the Vice chairperson for Kirembe cell asked the Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA to come to their rescue by putting road humps between Kyababinga and Muhokya areas.
