The National Resistance Movement top leadership has intensified efforts to reconcile with party members who lost in the primaries but intend to run as independents in Kasese District.

The party’s 1st National Vice Chairperson, Moses Kigongo, took this reconciliation message to Kasese, urging party-leaning independent candidates to rally behind official flag bearers. But the road to unity seems far from smooth.

The top NRM bosses made the advices today afternoon at a high level meeting held at Mult purpose hall in Kasese town.

In a bid to mend growing rifts within the National Resistance Movement, 1st National Vice Chairperson Moses Kigongo was in Kasese district, urging reconciliation among NRM cadres as the only tool that would lead the political party to success.

Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa the Ugandan deputy speaker emphasized the need for unity, calling on members to put party ideology ahead of personal ambition.

However, the message seems to have fallen on deaf ears for some. Several individuals who had expressed intentions to contest as independents after claiming unfairness in the party primaries, did not attend the reconciliation meeting.

Those who were present expressed mixed feelings, with some refusing to step down in favor of party flag bearers.

Kasese District NRM Chairperson James Mbahimba had strong words for those choosing to go independent.

As tensions simmer, the reconciliation drive highlights growing internal challenges for the ruling party as it heads into the next general elections.

The NRM leadership remains hopeful that dialogue will restore unity, but with some members already on a divergent path, only time will tell how effective these reconciliation efforts will be.

However the NRM carders who attended the meeting reported that the political party was not doing well because of the unfilled pledges like construction of the air field, Rail way and Land wrangles among others
