NEWS- Mitooma district Woman Member of Parliament Hon Agasha Juliet Bashisha has challenged politicians to join SACCOs and support them if they want developed communities.
Bashisha sounded this message while speaking as the chief guest at the Annual General Meeting-AGM of Nyakishojwa Twimukire SACCO Ltd held at Nyakishojwa Catholic parish in Rurehe Sub – county, Mitooma district on Saturday 2nd March 2024.
The legislator pointed out that if leaders join SACCOs, they can help the society and themselves in terms of need. Hon Juliet Bashisha further advised community members to join SACCOs and Associations if they want to benefit from government programs such as PDM, Emyooga, Women Livelihood among others.
She joined Nyakishojwa Twimukire SACCO Ltd with 100 shares each at Ugx 10,000= and contributed a full solar system to the SACCO as well as Ugx 500,000 in cash to the Association Members.
Speaking at the function, Primah Nasasira (Senior Commercial Officer) Mitooma district challenged SACCO administrators to always create provisions where women can also take loans without being asked for collateral security since most of the property is owned by men.
“Women have been facing a challenge of getting loans because they don’t have what to stake as security in case they need loans. So as SACCOs, help us and provide space where women can also get loans without first asking their husbands to give them permission” she said.
Nasasira revealed that in the current society, women play a vital role in looking after families thus a need to be given an opportunity to access government funds so that they can run family activities smoothly.
Julius Kagina, chairman Nyakishojwa Twimukire SACCO thanked people for supporting the SACCO stressing that as per now, they are experiencing steady progress according to the targets since the SACCO started 13 years ago.
“We started with only 8 members but we are now more than 871. I still request other people to join us because services are better and we are still doing more since we are even getting support from the community and leaders”, Julius Kagina explained.
The meeting was also attended by Father Babisiima Deusdedit, the Parish priest Nyakishojwa, Shallon Atukwatse Bashisha from Microfinance Support Center, Local leaders and SACCO members.
