ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman

NEWS– The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 30 year old man identified as Joshua Turyasingura a resident of Rwenyerere cell in Bihomborwa Ward in Kihihi Town Council.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate confirmed that the deceased was beaten to death on Friday evening at Rutendere Central village in Kayonza Subcounty in  Kanungu District.

This comes after the deceased allegedly defiled and murdered a 13 year old girl on January 4th 2024, a resident of Rukarara Village in  Kihembe Subcounty in Kanungu district, which case had been reported at Kihihi Police Station under reference number CRB.15/2024.

It is alleged that Turyasingura hit the victim with a log on the head, killing her instantly and took the body to the banana plantation where it was recovered after which he escaped to his father’s home at Bwaswa cell in Buhoma Town Council council where he was arrested by an angry mob after a tip and was lynched.

Police was alerted, rushed to the scene but it was too late to rescue him and the residents claimed that he was was a habitual criminal terrorizing them. Police retrieved the body to Kihihi Health Centre IV Mortuary to carry out postmortem examination. 

Earlier the mother of the victim, Nabaasa Milika a resident of Rukarara village, Kihembe Sub County in the Kanungu district reported to the Police that har daughter Kakuru Constance aged 13 who was a pupil at Kashesha Primary School had been defiled and murdered and the now deceased Turyasingura Joshua was a suspect but had fled the area.

The body of Kakuru was identified  by her grandfather Ndyomugyenyi John who found it in Ntabarwe hill in Rukarara village where the deceased was with her twin sister Kato Vastina together with whom they had gone to pick their pig when they met Turyasingura who called the Kakuru to send her buy him Waragi and she remained behind.

The deceased Kakuru didn’t return home and it was until Friday morning when her body was discovered by Yaredi in the banana plantations and later identified by her grandfather.

When the Police was informed, they visited the scene and found the body lying facing up, skirt raised up to thighs and blouse pulled to the chest and chest open.

The body had signs of sexual assault, strangulation and bleeding from the noise. It was retrieved and taken to Kihihi Health Centre Mortuary for postmortem examination after which it was  handed over to relatives for burial.
