SPORT- Kyandago village Football Club has celebrated their trophy after being crowned 2023 Kashenyi Mparana Cup Christmas Tournament.
The celebrations were held on Wednesday 3rd December 2024 at the home of Mujuni Rwomuhojwo in Kyandago, Kashenyi ward Bushenyi – Ishaka Municipality in Bushenyi district.
During the celebrations, the players of Kyandago slaughtered their goat that was given to them by the tournament Organizer Mr Erias Mparana, they also shared the luncheon with their guests including captains of all the teams that participated in the tournament.
They also unveiled the new uniform, football and paraded the trophy to their supporters. Mparana Xmas Cup tournament ended on 31st December 2023 and Kyandago Fc were crowned champions when they defeated Kashenyi 2 Football club by 5-3 on penalty shootouts after a goalless draw in the normal time of the game.
All 8 cells/villages that make up Kashenyi ward including Kashenyi 1, Kashenyi 2, Kyandago, Ntaza 1, Ntaza 2, Ihooza, Ryansana 1 and Ryansana 2 participated in the tournament. Though players from Kashenyi ward would decide the cell they want to play for without being forced to play for their home villages/cells.
Kyandago FC has always displayed a better performance in this tournament that is organised annually and now takes over as the champion from Ntaza who had won 2022’s trophy. This is their second trophy since this tournament started in 2014.
Speaking after the celebrations, Tusiime Grace Katontori, chairman LCI Kyandago thanked Erias Mparana for organising the tournament, always arguing that this has created a big bridge of uniting the youths in the society.
Tusiime challenged the youths to always stay focused, work hard and love education if they want to become useful citizens adding that the youths should learn and get the heart of loving and helping each other using the example of Mr Erias Mparana who has always been there for every individual every time.
Innocent Kabeka (Captain Ryansana 2), Murangira Ronald (captain Ntaza 2), Mr Charles (Team manager Kyandago) and other players thanked Mr Erias Mparana for promoting talents and vowed to always participate whenever the tournament is organized.
Meanwhile, Nyabicerere Fc defeated Ryamabengwa fc on penalty shootouts to become champions of Ryamabengwa ward Christmas Cup tournament 2023.
At least 6 cells including Gabikye, Mutojo, Nyabicerere, Ryamabengwa, Rweibare and Katungu had participated in the tournament that is also organized annually.
