KAMPALA- Concerns are being raised following the ongoing migration of Uganda’s well experienced scientists who are abandoning government institutions for better pay at universities in Uganda and abroad.
This was disclosed by Dr Yona Baguma the director general during discussions with government officials from the ministry of public service who had visited the National Agricultural crop research institute Namulonge on a fact finding mission about Uganda’s ongoing research on resilient crops and food security.
Currently a senior researcher at a government research institution is equivalent to a university professor.
Dr Yona Baguma says the scientists are fleeing the institutions because of poor pay and it will cost huge amounts of money to make replacements.
