NEWS- Residents of Ndorwa East led by Parliamentary hopeful Alexander Kyokwijuka have appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fast track and order for the tarmacking of Old Kabale Road which he personally pledged in 2015 during his campaign tour of Kabale District.

The Old Kabale Road stretches from Nyakigugwe in Kaharo Sub-county and goes through Nyanja (Maziba subcounty), Kabanyonyi, Kanjobe, Kigata and connects through Kyanamira to the main Kabale – Mbarara Highway.

According to Kyokwijuka, the 11km Road is strategic and is key to the economic transformation of the areas it goes through on top of easy access of Muvumbe Hydropower Station in Kahondo .

The road is also the lifeline of the farmers in the Kigarama and Kitambi who produce pineapples, matoke and Irish potatoes but who current suffer high transport costs due to the deplorable state of the road.

Kyokwijuka who is eying the Ndorwa East Parliamentary Seat in 2026 said that that once the Old Kabale Road is worked on it will go a long way in changing the lives of the people in the area whose main economic activity is agriculture.

When at the main campaign rally in Kabanyonyi, President Museveni said that the road would be worked on soonest, but now 10 years later the road remain in its deplorable state.

Even when President Museveni visited Kigezi Sub-region last week and the combined Kigezi Region political leaders handed to him their resolutions on priority areas of development especially roads, the Old Kabale Road was not mentioned in the report presented by Minister of Security Maj Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi who is also the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County in Parliament.

However, the residents argue that once the road is worked on, it will help transform the lives of Kaharo, Maziba and Kyanamira Sub-counties since it also connects to to neighboring Rwanda through Kigarama to Mukokye Weekly market which is strategic being at the border with Rwanda.
