NEWS- The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in Kisoro area is demanding arrears amounting to over UGX 783 million from water users.

Odeke mentioned that the district requested the installation of water points in various areas during the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in Batwa communities, but these have not been paid for.

Despite the challenging terrain of Kisoro District, Odeke noted that with sufficient resources, the NWSC can easily service their electromechanical equipment to enhance their operations.

He revealed that Kisoro District Local Government is the chief debtor, which has put the corporation in a dilemma about whether to disconnect these points or maintain them.

Odeke added that if the arrears were paid periodically, the corporation could consider extending water services to other areas.

Meanwhile, Kisoro District Deputy Principal Chief Administrative Officer Dr. George Kwizera acknowledged the issue and stated that the district will propose ways to clear the accumulated debts.
