MBALE- Parental Care Primary School, along with several primary schools from Kampala, excelled in this year’s National Primary School Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) Festival. The event, organized by NIRA, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Education and Sports, took place at Mbale Secondary School in Mbale City.
The competition attracted over 90 primary schools from across the country showcased their talents in various categories, including drama, creative dance, storytelling, and traditional folk songs.
In a highly competitive field, Nakivubo Primary School, Clevers’ Origin Primary School from Kampala, and Parental Care Primary School from Bushenyi emerged victorious, scoring 1475, 1422, and 1378 points respectively.
The festival was held under the theme “MY NIN, MY BIRTHRIGHT,” with pupils using music, drama, and poetry to highlight the importance of registering every child in Uganda at birth and obtaining a National Identification Number (NIN). This theme was chosen to raise awareness about the pressing need for child registration in the country.
During the competition, pupils emphasized the need for registration of every child in Uganda at birth and to obtain a NIN. This was done through creative music, drama and poetry performances.
Parental Care Primary School Bushenyi was also recognized as the best performer in creative dance, further cementing its reputation for excellence in the arts.
At the closing ceremony, Hamuza Banja, the Resident City Commissioner of the Industrial Division, praised the participants for their efforts in using MDD as a platform to sensitize communities about the importance of birth registration.
Yebaza Mukama Trevor, the director of Parental Care Primary School, attributed their success to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers.
Yebaza Mukama added that the school is committed to identify and develop learners’ talents through promoting Co-Curricular Activities alongside academics inorder to nurture responsible children and national citizens.
