The Police in Kanungu District have arrested two suspects for alleged defacing campaign posters of Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo an independent candidate for Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East Constituency in Kanungu District.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the arrest of tge two and and identified them as 33 year old Ayamba Akim a resident of Rumba Cell in Kanungu Town Council and 25 year old Namara Edson, a bodaboda rider and resident of Western Ward in Kanungu Town Council.
It’s alleged that during the night of 4th January 2026, a group of four went and maliciously defaced the said posters on a billboard located at Kanungu Town Council.
n the process of committing the offence, Baguma Martin the night watchman who guards at JAS Petrol station heard noise and moved near the billboard and managed to identify the two suspects named above among others.
The case of defacement of campaign posters was registered at Kanungu Police Station, the scene of crime was examined and some exhibits of the damaged posters recovered.
Maate said that there are Police efforts to arrest the remaining two suspects and urged the people to desist from acts of lawlessness, but should always adhere to the Electoral Commission guidelines for the smooth running of the exercise.
