Museveni being received at the Police Headquarters

KAMPALA- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, on Wednesday 5th February 2025 addressed Police officers who attended the 28th Police Council meeting, which is a significant event on the Uganda Police Force’s calendar.

The Police Council is a crucial organ within the Uganda Police Force, comprising 85 members, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Directors and representatives from various ranks.

As the top policy-making body, the Police Council is responsible for overseeing key aspects of the Police operations which included recruitment and Training to ensuring that Police Force has the necessary personnel and skills to perform its duties.

The Uganda Police Council is also responsible for appointment and Promotions to manage the career progression of police officers, Discipline to maintain order and discipline within the force.

The Police Council is also responsible for directing the terms and Conditions of Service to ensure fair treatment and working conditions for Police personnel, oversee the provision of necessary resources and equipment, developing and implement policies to guide Police operations, ensuring the Police Force’s organizational structure is effective and efficient and promote a force that reflects the diversity and needs of the Ugandan people.

The Police Council’s work is guided by the Police Act, Cap 324, and its meetings provide a platform for strategic discussions and decision-making.

During today’s meeting, attended by President Museveni, marks an important occasion for the Police Force, as it seeks to address contemporary policing challenges and strengthen its capabilities to ensure a safe and secure community.
