Museveni display the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda after taking oath

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today afternoon met and held a meeting with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Dr Atul Khare and his delegation, who paid a courtesy call on him.

The meeting took place at State House Entebbe and the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed Uganda’s continued cooperation with the United Nations in promoting peace, stability and development.

Dr Atul Khare who hails from India has been leading the Department of Operational Support since its inception in 2019. 

He oversees support for UN entities worldwide, including logistics, human resources, health-care and ICT services. 

Meanwhile President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and operational licence agreement between the Uganda Communications Commission and Starlink.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks an important step towards the commencement of their operations in Uganda.

President Museveni noted that Uganda’s interest is in security, revenue assurance and proper accountability within the telecommunications sector so that Uganda knows who is operating and the customers are.

The President made it categorically clear that he was pleased that Starlink has agreed to comply with Uganda’s laws and regulatory requirements as it prepares to begin service delivery. 

The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance Dr Aminah Zawedde and the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission Nyombi Thembo.
